Tale Millers Cricket Club

Tale Millers CC logo

Tale Millers was formed in 2014 for local folk to enjoy some friendly 20 Over Cricket, a pint or two and some friendly banter during the summer months. We welcome enquiries from opposition teams, and new players, whatever age and sex, or join the ranks of our growing social membership.

We play our home games at Tuck Mill, a pleasant short stroll from the centre of the village on a summers evening.

  • Visitors and walk-ins are welcome during game days

  • Social memberships are available at a low annual rate

  • BBQs are catered after every match

  • Ice cold Thatcher’s and lagers are now on tap!

Hope to see you and the family there.

Better late than never !

July 28th, 2025

The recent heatwave has seen us take to the field 7 times since the last report . We have sweated our way to four wins and three defeats and there have been days when the ground staff have been very pleased to be able to strip off ( not completely ) and have a dip in the cool waters of the mighty Tale – thankfully we weren’t attending a concert by the son of one Exeter’s finest caravan dealers from a year or two back ( hint – surname Martin)  and so there is no recorded footage to embarrass either […]

Tale Millers CC

June 30th, 2025

As predicted last month, the return to home games and Ed’s cooking has seen a remarkable upturn in our fortunes! After starting the summer with four consecutive defeats, in the past month we have blown away Exeter University, Blacksmiths and Artizans, Branscombe Ravens and Coaver Gerries (formerly The Geriatrics, but we aren’t allowed to call anyone ‘geriatric’ anymore) followed by a mid-match abandonment with Talaton Inn and a narrow two run defeat to Bakers XI. In the absence of Skipper Kittow (on holiday), Ben Peters took the reins and as things stand has an unblemished captaincy record… lets see how the […]

Tale Millers – May 2025

May 28th, 2025

We are mid May as I write – the sun is shining and surely the weather couldn’t be better for cricket? You might think so but not if you’re a Miller as, despite our best efforts, the season has started with three consecutive defeats – if I knew how to make a very sad face in print I would ! The run started in late April with a 39 run defeat to Clyst Hydon, who made a not unbeatable 108-5 on a sticky track, but we just couldn’t get any momentum in our reply and despite Jon Pengelly making 26 […]

TALE MILLERS CC – August

August 28th, 2024

I can’t quite believe that we are fast approaching the end of another cricket season but as we’ve already had the first league game of the football season at St James Park then it must be the case. Why does time seem to fly by as we get older ? It can’t of course , but it does feel like it sometimes! At this point it would be easy to get side-tracked and start to discuss the surprising appointment of England’s record goal scorer as manager of our friends down the A38 in Plymouth or how long he might survive […]

WE’RE 10 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR!

July 8th, 2024

With The Millers celebrating 10 years at Tuck Mill, we are having a very anniversary game on: Sunday, 14th July against The Kittows! With The Kittows drafting in ‘ringers’ from the Southern Hemisphere and their usual cohort of plumbers and farmers, The Millers will have their work cut out. With their own bunch of farmers, a solicitor, an oil driller, a marketeer, a builder, property tycoon, fitness coach and many more, we have every resource (and trick in the book) needed to get that win! With a 2pm start and an afternoon of quality village cricket and banter guaranteed, why […]

TALE MILLERS CRICKET CLUB

June 28th, 2024

I don’t want to start off by mentioning weather but we have at last managed to get a few games in and this week it even seems a bit more Summery ! Our month began with a visit from the students of Exeter University – before anyone comments that this is a bit above our level its not their First Team but the Social XI who are always a friendly bunch . With the wicket still a tad damp and not over bouncy The Millers batted first , making a steady 87 all out, largely thanks to a fine knock […]

TMCC – May 2024

May 28th, 2024

Here we are in the second half of May, The Millers season hasn’t had the brightest of starts , our record reading something like: Lost to weather -3, Lost to Oppo-3, Won-0. An optimist might call these results a “mixed bag” and prior to this winter I always thought I was one of those optimistic types but having spent much of today dodging yet more showers to try and get a home game on, I’m really starting to wonder whether its time to join the glass half empty brigade and when something good happens you can knock me over with […]

JOHN SOMERS

March 18th, 2024

It is with great sadness that we  learnt  that our stalwart Umpire and one of our “originals” , John Somers, had passed away peacefully. Its not my place to offer an obituary but on behalf of the club I hope I can offer an affectionate reflection   on John’s contribution to our little club. As an academic and playwright associated with the University of Exeter, John spent many years enjoying his cricket with their staff “Erratics” team and it was our good fortune that our fledgling club needed an umpire just as his  playing career wound down. John was already familiar […]
