The recent heatwave has seen us take to the field 7 times since the last report . We have sweated our way to four wins and three defeats and there have been days when the ground staff have been very pleased to be able to strip off ( not completely ) and have a dip in the cool waters of the mighty Tale – thankfully we weren’t attending a concert by the son of one Exeter’s finest caravan dealers from a year or two back ( hint – surname Martin) and so there is no recorded footage to embarrass either Ruggy or I .
Runs have flowed from the bats of messrs Hammett and Chambers , although the latter is very hit or miss and so at present is strong favourite for the Duck of the Year award for the batter who records the most “0” s in the season , even though he records some very decent scores – he’s also taken up Pilates which maybe helps his general bendiness . I can only look on in awe .
The heatwave of course had to end at some point and it was good to get back to the realities of an English summer at Plymtree with team members reaching for their kagools to fend off the showers in between batting – now that’s the cricket that we are a bit more familiar with . It didn’t stop young David Kittow recording bowling figures of 2-2 , clearly a man suited to the slippery conditions – but not to suggest he is a slippery character , perish the thought.
The Plymtree boys even lit up the firepit and fed us handsomely – definitely ahead in the Hosts of the Year voting .
We move on with games this week against the men with Nyne Heads and the Fullsy Allstars who I’m told include in their ranks a French former Exeter City midfielder , should be interesting . Last time they bought a footballer with them he smashed poor American Fred for five sixes in an over and Fred then moved to Plymtree to escape from having to play – on the up side Fred is a very good Treasurer.
