Five months into the new year already and a lot has happened and equally a lot has stayed the same!
Some of the happening things are on the shop suppliers list. It’s an ever changing world out there and we have to go with the flow at times and at others we make changes based on feedback from customers. To that end we have recently swapped our bread supplier to Ryders of Dawlish – not quite so close as the previous bakers but their bread is distributed by J&R Foods who come to the village regularly and were able to deliver Ryders bread pretty well when we want it. Do let us know what you think and if there’s a particular bread you like, as their range is quite extensive.
Bread is a staple and one of the backbones of a village shop, we need to always have some ready for you fresh and warm – well warm’s a bit tricky except at the weekend when we of course bake a range of croissants pastries and baguettes ourselves. If bread is the backbone then milk must be the village shop’s blood flowing in and out round and round and again you need us to always have the fridge stocked – we have swapped out our Cotswold milk (bit too many food miles there) for Roddas a Cornish dairy but as with Cornish dairy products don’t forget to put your sugar in your tea first before the milk just like a jam scone!
Bits of Cornwall can be a long way away so to offset that there is of course Oak Park Milk only a few miles distant in real glass returnable bottles (but pop the tops in your recycling). So we have a skeleton and a circulatory system let’s finish this analogy with the flesh and that in this case isn’t the quality meat from Veyseys but the fruit and veg which is now supplied by Frank H Mann of Torquay, with regular deliveries and a great price point. You’ll see we have reinstated the price per kilo board so hopefully no shocks at checkout
Hopefully these three changes will be another improvement in what we offer to our customers and keep you coming back and passing the word on to friends and family that shopping locally simply the best ….
