We have all been admiring the flowers by the Payhembury sign and along Church Lane recently as well as the fields full of cheerful 
sunflowers at Rull and brilliant blue chicory flowers at the bottom of Poffitt Lane and it made us wonder if we could start selling cut flowers. Luckily for us we have found a grower and garden designer in Colestocks who we hope is going to provide us with beautiful fresh Devon garden flowers to sell in our shop, none of your long distance air-freighted flowers here!
Weekends are busy in the shop with lots of customers coming in for their shopping 
and being tempted by the warm aroma of crisp, buttery croissants, pains au chocolat, pains aux raisins and my favourite almond croissants. Thank you to the ‘early bird’ volunteers who do a sterling job getting up early at the weekend to make sure that all these delicacies are cooked to perfection and ready and waiting for our breakfasts. If you would like to join the rota for these early shifts, Anne (841345) would love to hear from you. Or if you are more of an owl than a lark there are also opportunities on our ‘closing at the end of the day’ rota. Full training will be given and your
turn on the rota will only come round once in six weeks.
Thank you to everyone who supports our weekly raffle. All the profits are split between various village
groups and it is coming up to that time of year again when, if your organisation would like a share of this money, we ask you to apply in writing to David Curran, our chairman of the shop. We have
over £300 to allocate at the committee’s discretion so don’t be shy, just let us know by September 18th how you would use any money that you were given.
We have had some fantastic local products in the shop again this year ranging from superb beef from within the village (we’re expecting more in October) to milk and honey (and excitingly honeycomb too) from Clyst Hydon as well as Janet’s popular apple juice and hogget from Yellingham. Halina’s Herbs hay fever tea has helped me deal with my hay fever this summer and if you think there are some people in Payhembury who are starting to look younger by the month they say it’s because they are enthusiastic users of Halina’s fabulous rose cream, give it a try!
