It’s nearly the end of March and we started lambing at the beginning of the month but it has been so slow. I have never known a year like it. We are not even halfway through after three weeks. I need to have a word with the rams!
The lambs we have had have been superb so even if the rams were slow, they have produced some excellent stock. So far we have had four sets of triplets (which do not excite me, or the ewe, as a ewe has only two teats), two singles and the rest are twins. With the good weather we have been able to turn ewes and lambs out really quickly into the field where of course they are at their happiest. Unfortunately, the grass has been slow coming but with weather like today (so beautiful) I‘m sure the grass will soon get going.
Yesterday we had a ewe who decided to reject one of her lambs which is so annoying, so we have got a little ewe lamb on the bottle and she’s been named
Monica (don’t ask me why). If you walk around the lanes you will see them in the fields and our door is always open so please call in if you want to see Monica.
