Yellingham Farm With the rest of the world going crazy at the moment preparing for Christmas, life on the farm is actually quiet and serene. The rams have done their job and are back resting until next autumn, this year’s lambs are growing on nicely as are the cattle.
The constant rain has put a lot of pressure on the fields, with the river Tale rising and falling daily. Fortunately, we are not overstocked and all of our stock including the cattle are still out. With the warm, damp weather, pneumonia is always a threat so we try not to house the cattle in particular, unless absolutely 
necessary. We are however, putting hay out for everything and you might wonder why when there is so much grass – it basically gives the animals dry roughage which can reduce the possibility of the very wet grass going straight through from one end to the other…..if you know what I mean!!
Lameness in my sheep is a bit of a problem but we keep on top of it as required. So if you see a lame sheep in one of our fields and it has a large 
red spray mark on the leg in question, we have treated it – a very simple but easy method to let everyone know what’s what.
By the time you read this we will all be looking forward to 2020 and it is certainly going to be an interesting one but let’s hope a really good one.
