Dear Friends,
Do you like this picture of me? I found some old material and made an outfit like Rev Cate’s. I have to say it made me walk more slowly and also made me think about sensible things rather than running up and down the drainpipes or playing hide and seek with Parchina around the pews. I wondered if that was why Rev Cate wore it. I think really she wears it to indicate that she is doing something special. So I thought that I would do something special as well when I was wearing it.
So I sat very quietly up where the choir can sit and looked at the stained glass window. I was so surprised with what I saw when I looked really hard at the window. I’d never noticed that it told a story, I thought that it was just a lot of pretty coloured glass. I saw that it was the story of Jesus dying that I had heard many times in church. But I also saw near the bottom the picture of Jesus washing his friend’s feet. Then I remembered something Rev Cate said about the coloured scarf that she wears, and how it was a reminder of the towel Jesus used to dry his friend’s feet after he had washed them. This was a symbol of service.
I looked at the one I had made and I thought do I help people? Do I do any form of service? Um! Well I sometimes help Mum and Dad with things around our nest, but do I do anything for the other mice and animals around us? I felt a bit sad, I’m not sure I do.
So I went off to find Parchina and have a chat with her about how we could help others. The first thing that we thought was we could make sure that we are more careful when playing, so we don’t leave things for people to trip up and then we thought, as the cold weather was coming on, we could take some of the food we find in church out to our field mice cousins who don’t have much in winter. So that’s a start, but we’ll think of more I’m sure.
