FOPs Update – 13th October 2017

13 October 2017 By Sue

Friends of Payhembury School

Our aim is to support the school by raising money for the ‘extras’ which otherwise would not be provided, and through this enhancing our children’s experiences.

What does FOPS spend our hard-earned money on?

Parents, carers, local residents and businesses are always very generous helping FOPS raise money for the school. In the last academic year (September 2016 – July 2017), we gave over £900 to the school. The majority of this was towards trips and events outside of the classrooms although we also bought end of term prizes, Y6 leavers hoodies and provided refreshments at some school events. Since September 2017, and at the school’s request we have provided the following:

  • Contribution to trips and events for the academic year £1,000

  • End of term prizes for teachers to allocate (Autumn term) £80 (£80 will also be given for the Spring & Summer terms)

  • Art equipment £400

What is FOPS fundraising for now?

Classroom equipment! The recent expansion from 3 to 4 classes is very exciting and the school has asked FOPS to contribute to kit the classrooms out to a high standard. The school would like FOPS to raise money for more art equipment, as they would like to provide each class with its very own personalised art cupboard to extend their existing provision for art.

This will be our focus for the Autumn and Spring terms and we aim to raise between £1,500 – £2,000 for the classrooms.

We also have £2,772 ring fenced – a little while ago some of our bravest parents skydived to raise money for an outdoors classroom/tepee. The money they raised and the proceeds from some events held during 2016 – £2,772 – is currently ring fenced in the FOPS bank account.

The tepee was requested by the school before the build and we are currently in discussions about what is the best way to spend this substantial amount of money to ensure maximum gain for the children.

Thank you to Payhembury Provisions

Every year the local shop – Payhembury Provisions – invites local groups to apply for grants. This application process has recently taken place and we had some great news. FOPS had requested help paying for some new ‘Smart Packs’ for Beech and Oak classes and Payhembury Provisions have kindly donated the whole amount – £400! (Smart Packs are bags which hang on the back of chairs).

Payhembury Provisions has a track record of supporting the school through FOPS so please continue to show your support to the shop.
